Base64 Encoder

Convert text or files to Base64 instantly. Encode UTF-8 text (emoji included), switch to URL-safe Base64url for tokens and URLs, or drop an image, PDF or any file to get its Base64 — optionally as a ready-to-use data: URI.

Type text to encode it as UTF-8 Base64 as you type, or drop a file (up to 25 MB) to encode its raw bytes. Tick URL-safe for the - and _ alphabet without padding, or “Output as data URI” to embed an image directly in HTML or CSS. Everything runs locally.

Encoding isn't encryption. Base64, URL and HTML encoding just change how data is written so it survives transport — anyone can decode it instantly. Never use them to hide passwords or secrets; use real encryption or a password hash instead.

How to use Base64 Encoder

  1. 1Type text, or drop a file.
  2. 2Choose standard or URL-safe Base64.
  3. 3For images, optionally output a data URI.
  4. 4Copy or save the result.

When to use Base64

Base64 represents binary data using 64 safe ASCII characters, so it can travel inside JSON, XML, email (MIME), HTTP headers (Basic auth) and URLs. It increases size by about 33%, so embedding large images as data URIs usually hurts performance — it's best for small icons.

Base64url replaces + and / with - and _ and drops = padding; it's used in JWTs and URLs.

Encoding is not encryption

Encoding changes how data is written so it can travel safely through URLs, HTML or text-only systems. It uses no key, so anyone can decode it instantly. Never use Base64, URL or HTML encoding to hide passwords or secrets — use encryption, or a password hash like bcrypt.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert an image to Base64?

Drop the image, tick “Output as data URI”, and copy the result — it starts with data:image/…;base64, and can be used as an img src or CSS url().

Why does my Base64 differ from another tool?

Usually text encoding (we use UTF-8), a trailing newline, or URL-safe vs standard alphabet.

Is my code or data uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste is sent to a server or stored.
