Why fixed lot sizes are dangerous

Trading the same lot size on every trade regardless of stop-loss distance means your dollar risk swings wildly — a trade with a wider stop can lose several times what a tighter-stop trade would. Sizing by a fixed % of account risk keeps every trade's downside consistent.

The formula

riskAmount = accountBalance × risk% ÷ 100. lots = riskAmount ÷ (stopLossPips × pipValuePerStandardLot). This uses the same pip-value calculation as the Pip Calculator, so the two tools always agree.

Frequently Asked Questions

What risk % should I use per trade?

Most risk-management guidance suggests 0.5%–2% of account balance per trade — higher risk per trade means fewer losing trades needed to significantly damage the account.

Why does this need the same inputs as the Pip Calculator?

Position sizing depends on pip value, which depends on the currency pair, exchange rate and account currency — this calculator computes that internally using the same tested logic, so you don't need to run the Pip Calculator separately first.
