Running Pace Calculator
This pace calculator works out your running pace, finish time or distance: enter any two and it solves the third. Get your pace per kilometre and per mile, your speed, and lap times for 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon or any custom distance.
Input any two variables among Time, Distance, and Pace to compute the third. Easily toggle between min/km and min/mile, and review standard split times for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon.

How to use Running Pace Calculator
- 1Choose what you want to calculate: Pace, Time, or Distance.
- 2Enter the known inputs in kilometers, miles, or preset standard race distances.
- 3View your calculated pace, speed (km/h and mph), 400m track lap times, and race split projections.
Converting pace and speed
Running pace is expressed as time per unit distance (minutes:seconds per kilometer or mile), whereas vehicle speed is distance per hour. To convert min/km to km/h: Speed = 60 ÷ Pace in decimal minutes. For example, a 5:00 min/km pace corresponds to exactly 12.0 km/h.
Pacing strategies for race day
Even pacing or slight negative splits (running the second half slightly faster than the first) consistently produce the fastest race times in half and full marathons by sparing muscle glycogen early on.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good running pace for beginners?
A comfortable beginner pace typically ranges from 6:30 to 8:00 min/km (10:30 to 13:00 min/mile). If you cannot hold a spoken conversation, slow down.
What pace do I need for a sub-2-hour half marathon?
To break 2:00:00 in a half marathon (21.0975 km), you need an average pace of 5:41 per km (9:09 per mile).
What pace is a 4-hour marathon?
A 4:00:00 marathon requires holding a 5:41 min/km pace (9:09 min/mile) over the full 42.195 km distance.
How do I convert pace to speed?
Divide 60 by your pace in minutes. For example, 6:00 min/km equals 60 ÷ 6 = 10 km/h (or 6.21 mph).
