File Hash Checker

Make sure a file you downloaded is exactly what the publisher released. Drop the file to compute its SHA-256, SHA-512, SHA-1, MD5 and CRC32 checksums on your device, paste the checksum from the download page, and see instantly whether it matches — or compare two files byte-for-byte.

Drop the file (ISO, installer, archive or anything else). The tool streams it through all common hash functions in your browser — nothing is uploaded, even for multi-gigabyte files. Paste the expected checksum from the website; the tool detects the algorithm by length and shows a clear match or mismatch.

A checksum match proves the file is byte-for-byte what the publisher hashed. It proves authenticity only if you got the checksum from a trusted source (ideally over HTTPS or with a signature). This tool doesn't scan for viruses.

How to use File Hash Checker

  1. 1Drop the downloaded file.
  2. 2Wait for the checksums to be calculated.
  3. 3Paste the checksum shown on the official download page.
  4. 4Check for the green “Verified” result.

Why verify checksums

A matching checksum proves your copy is byte-for-byte identical to the one the publisher hashed — no corruption during download and no tampering by a mirror. It's standard practice for operating system images, firmware, crypto wallets and security tools.

It proves authenticity only if the checksum itself is trustworthy. Get it from the official site over HTTPS, ideally with a GPG signature.

Command-line equivalents

Windows: certutil -hashfile file.iso SHA256 (or Get-FileHash in PowerShell). macOS: shasum -a 256 file.iso. Linux: sha256sum file.iso. This tool gives the same result without a terminal. A checksum match is not a virus scan — a malicious file published by the attacker would match its own checksum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit — files are read in 4 MB chunks, so even multi-gigabyte ISOs work, limited only by your device's speed.

Does it check for viruses?

No. It verifies that the file matches a known checksum. Scan unknown files with your antivirus or an online scanner.

Is my data sent to your server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API and JavaScript. Nothing you type or generate is uploaded, logged or stored.
