Duplicate Content Checker
Find out how similar two pages or texts really are. Paste them or load them from URLs, and see the share of identical 5-word phrases, how much of each text appears in the other, the exact sentences they share, and whether search engines would likely treat them as duplicates.
Paste two texts or load two page URLs. The checker compares them with shingle overlap (the classic near-duplicate measure over 5-word sequences), containment in each direction, and word-frequency cosine similarity, then highlights identical sentences and gives a verdict from Unique to Duplicate. It also suggests exact-phrase Google searches to find copies elsewhere.

How duplicate content affects SEO
Google doesn't penalise ordinary duplicate content — it filters it. When several URLs carry the same content, Google picks one to show and folds the others in, which can mean it shows the wrong version or splits signals between them. Pages on your own site that are near-duplicates also compete with each other for the same searches.
The fix is usually to consolidate: merge the pages and 301-redirect, or keep both and point a rel=canonical at the main version. Deliberate copying of other sites' content to manipulate rankings is a different matter and can be treated as spam.
What the scores mean
Shared phrasing counts identical 5-word sequences — high values mean passages were copied, even if a few words changed. “A found in B” shows how much of the first text is contained in the second, which catches a short page copied into a longer one. Topic similarity compares vocabulary, so two original articles on the same subject score high here but low on phrasing.
A web-wide plagiarism search needs a paid index of billions of pages, so this tool doesn't claim one. The exact-phrase Google links it generates are the most reliable free check.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it check my text against the whole internet?
No — that requires a paid plagiarism database. It compares two texts or pages precisely, and gives you ready-made exact-phrase Google searches for your most distinctive sentences, which is the best free way to find copies.
How similar is too similar?
If most of one page's 5-word phrases appear in another (the Duplicate or Near-duplicate verdict), search engines will likely treat them as the same content. Boilerplate like headers and footers doesn't matter — the main content should be unique.
Is there a duplicate content penalty?
Not for normal duplication. Google chooses one version to index and ignores the rest. Only content scraped or copied to manipulate rankings risks action as spam.
Is the text I paste uploaded anywhere?
No. Pasted text is analyzed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device. Only the “From URL” option asks our server to fetch a public page.
Is this SEO tool free? Do I need to sign up?
It's completely free with no sign-up, no email and no daily credits. Use it as often as you like.
