SERP Snippet Preview Tool

Type a title, URL and meta description — or load them from any page — and see a pixel-accurate preview of your Google result on desktop and mobile, including where it would be cut off and which words Google would bold.

Enter your title, URL and meta description, or paste a page URL to load them automatically. The preview renders your result the way Google does — Arial at Google's sizes, truncated at the same pixel widths — and bolds words that match the search query you enter.

How to use SERP Snippet Preview

  1. 1Paste a URL and click Load, or type the title, URL and description yourself.
  2. 2Enter the search query to see which words Google would bold.
  3. 3Switch between desktop and mobile previews.
  4. 4Adjust the text until the width meters are green and nothing important is cut off.

Why preview your snippet

Your title and description are the first thing a searcher reads. A title that's truncated mid-word or a description that trails off with “...” before the call to action loses clicks, even at the same ranking. Previewing lets you see what searchers see before you publish.

The preview measures text in pixels using the Arial metrics Google renders snippets in: about 580px for desktop titles and about 920px for desktop descriptions, with a shorter description on mobile.

Keep in mind

Google may rewrite titles and descriptions, add sitelinks, dates, ratings or other rich results, and shows slightly different layouts over time. Treat the preview as a precise guide to length and emphasis rather than a guarantee of exactly what Google will display. To generate new options, use the Meta Title Generator and Meta Description Generator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this preview accurate?

The widths and truncation use the same font and sizes Google uses for snippets, so they're very close. Google does occasionally change its layout and can rewrite snippets, so leave a little margin.

Why are some words bold?

Google bolds words in the snippet that match (or closely match) the search query. Enter a query to see which of your words would be highlighted.

Does it work for mobile results?

Yes — switch to Mobile to see the narrower layout. Mobile titles can wrap onto two lines, while descriptions are shorter, so put your key message first.

Is this SEO tool free? Do I need to sign up?
