Keyword Density Checker
Paste your content or enter a URL to see which words and phrases it uses most — one, two and three-word phrases with counts and density percentages — and check a target keyword against a natural range to catch both under-use and keyword stuffing.
Paste text or fetch a page by URL. The checker counts every one, two and three-word phrase (ignoring stop words like “the” and “of” at the edges), shows each phrase's count and density — count × words in the phrase ÷ total words × 100 — and rates your target keyword from not used to possible keyword stuffing.

How to use Keyword Density Checker
- 1Paste your text, or switch to From URL and fetch a page's visible text.
- 2Optionally enter the keyword you're targeting.
- 3Switch between 1, 2 and 3-word phrases to see what the content is really about.
- 4Adjust the copy if the target keyword is missing or overused, and export the table to CSV.
Is there an ideal keyword density?
No. Google doesn't use keyword density as a ranking factor, and there's no percentage that makes a page rank. Modern search understands synonyms and topics, so a page that covers a subject well will naturally use the main phrase and many related ones.
Density is still a useful diagnostic. If your target keyword barely appears, the page may not clearly be about it. If it's far above everything else — typically over 3–4% — the text probably reads as repetitive, and keyword stuffing is explicitly against Google's spam policies. Most well-ranking pages fall roughly between 0.5% and 2.5% for their main phrase.
Reading the phrase table
Two and three-word phrases are the most revealing: they show the topics your content actually emphasizes. If the top phrases aren't what you want to rank for, that's a sign to refocus the copy. For the most relevant topical phrases (rather than raw counts), try the Keyword Extractor.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is keyword density calculated?
Density = number of times the phrase appears × number of words in the phrase ÷ total words × 100. So a two-word phrase used 5 times in 500 words has 2% density.
What counts as keyword stuffing?
Repeating a keyword unnaturally to manipulate rankings — lists of keywords, the same phrase in every sentence, or hidden text. If the copy sounds robotic when read aloud, rewrite it.
Why are words like “the” missing?
Stop words carry no topic meaning, so they're ignored at the start and end of phrases. Otherwise “of the” would top every list.
Is the text I paste uploaded anywhere?
No. Pasted text is analyzed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device. Only the “From URL” option asks our server to fetch a public page.
