Image Metadata Viewer (EXIF Viewer)

See everything hidden inside a photo before you share it. Drop a JPEG, HEIC, PNG, WebP, TIFF or RAW file to read its EXIF, GPS, IPTC and XMP metadata — camera and lens, date taken, editing software, and the exact location it was taken, shown on a map — without uploading it anywhere.

Drop a photo and its metadata is read in your browser with the exifr library. The viewer highlights privacy-sensitive fields — GPS coordinates (with a map link), camera serial numbers, owner and author names, software — and lists every other tag. To remove them, use the Image Metadata Remover.

How to use Image Metadata Viewer

  1. 1Drop a photo (it stays on your device).
  2. 2Check the GPS warning and privacy-sensitive fields.
  3. 3Browse all metadata tags.
  4. 4Remove metadata before sharing if needed.

What photo metadata reveals

Phones embed the GPS coordinates of where a photo was taken, down to a few metres, along with the date and time, device model and sometimes the owner's name. Sharing an original file can reveal your home address or daily routine.

Most social networks strip metadata on upload, but email attachments, messaging apps sending “original quality”, cloud share links and marketplaces often don't.

Removing it

Strip EXIF, GPS and XMP data with the Image Metadata Remover, or turn off location tagging in your camera app. For documents, use the PDF Metadata Viewer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The file is read by JavaScript in your browser; nothing is sent to our server.

Why is there no metadata in my image?

Screenshots, edited exports and images downloaded from social media usually have it stripped already.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It's completely free with no sign-up and no daily credits.
