Page Speed Checker

Test how fast any page loads on mobile and desktop. The checker runs Google Lighthouse through the official PageSpeed Insights API and shows performance, accessibility, best-practices and SEO scores, key speed metrics, the fixes with the biggest savings, and real-user data when Google has it.

Enter a URL and choose mobile or desktop. The tool runs Google Lighthouse via the PageSpeed Insights API (it takes 10–40 seconds) and returns four category scores, lab metrics — First Contentful Paint, Largest Contentful Paint, Total Blocking Time, Cumulative Layout Shift and Speed Index — the top opportunities ranked by estimated time saved, and real-user Chrome data where available.

Lab scores vs real users

The performance score comes from a simulated load on a mid-range phone with a throttled connection, so it's consistent and good for debugging but differs from any one visitor's experience. Real-user data from the Chrome UX Report reflects what actual visitors saw over 28 days — and that's what Google uses for its page experience signals.

Scores vary a few points between runs because of network and server variation. Look at trends and the individual metrics rather than chasing 100. See real-user results in detail with the Core Web Vitals Checker.

The fixes that usually matter most

Largest Contentful Paint improves when the main image or heading loads early: serve images in modern formats at the right size, preload the hero image, and cut render-blocking CSS and fonts. Total Blocking Time drops when you ship less JavaScript and defer third-party scripts such as chat widgets, tag managers and ads. Layout shift is fixed by giving images, ads and embeds reserved space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my mobile score lower than desktop?

Lighthouse tests mobile on a simulated mid-range phone with a slow 4G connection and a slower CPU, so heavy JavaScript and large images cost far more time. Google uses the mobile version of your page for indexing, so prioritise mobile.

Does page speed affect Google rankings?

Yes, but modestly. Core Web Vitals are part of Google's page experience signals, which act more like a tiebreaker between similarly relevant pages. A faster site also keeps more visitors, which matters regardless.

Why does my score change every time?

Network conditions, server response time, ads and third-party scripts vary between runs. Differences of a few points are normal.

Where does the data come from?

From Google's official PageSpeed Insights API: a Lighthouse test run by Google, plus real-user Chrome UX Report data when Google has enough visits for the page. Results are cached for 15 minutes, and each visitor has a daily test limit.

Is this SEO tool free? Do I need to sign up?

It's completely free with no sign-up, no email and no daily credits. Use it as often as you like.
