PDF Metadata Remover

Share PDFs without leaking who made them. Drop a PDF to see its metadata, then remove the title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer, dates, the embedded XMP metadata and document IDs in one click — and download the clean copy. Everything happens on your device.

Drop a PDF, review the metadata found, and click Remove metadata. The tool clears the document information dictionary, deletes the XMP metadata streams at document and page level and the trailer document ID, saves a new PDF and re-reads it to show what remains. Page content is untouched.

This removes document-level metadata. It can't remove information that's part of the visible content — names in the text, headers and footers, comments, form fields, or metadata inside embedded images. Review those before sharing.

How to use PDF Metadata Remover

  1. 1Drop the PDF.
  2. 2Review the metadata found.
  3. 3Click Remove metadata.
  4. 4Download the clean PDF and check it with the viewer.

What gets removed

Document properties (title, author, subject, keywords, creator application, producer, creation and modification dates), XMP metadata streams, page-level metadata and PieceInfo, and the file identifier. The resulting file is otherwise identical — same pages, text and layout.

It doesn't change visible content, so check for names in headers, comments, tracked changes and form fields, and metadata inside embedded images.

Why do it

Publishing documents, sending CVs, submitting anonymous reviews or sharing internal reports outside your organisation are all good reasons to strip metadata first. Inspect any PDF with the PDF Metadata Viewer, and photos with the Image Metadata Viewer.

Will it change how the PDF looks?

No. Only metadata is removed; pages, fonts and images are kept as they are.

Does it work on encrypted PDFs?

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.

Is my data sent to your server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API and JavaScript. Nothing you type or generate is uploaded, logged or stored.
