How to use Cash Flow Runway Calculator
- 1Enter your current cash on hand.
- 2Enter your monthly operating expenses.
- 3Enter your monthly revenue (0 if pre-revenue).
- 4See your net burn rate and exactly how many months of runway you have left.
The formula
netBurn = monthlyExpenses − monthlyRevenue. runwayMonths = cashOnHand ÷ netBurn. If revenue covers or exceeds expenses, netBurn is zero or negative and runway is effectively infinite — you're not drawing down cash.
Why runway matters
Cash flow is consistently reported as a top-two concern for small business owners, and a majority operate with under three months of reserve. Knowing your exact runway — not just a vague sense of it — is what turns a looming problem into a plannable one.
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as 'cash on hand'?
Money immediately available to cover expenses — checking/savings balances and near-cash equivalents. Don't include unpaid invoices or illiquid assets.
What if my revenue varies month to month?
Use a conservative (lower) average monthly revenue for a more cautious runway estimate, or recalculate regularly as your numbers change.
Is my financial data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is sent to a server.
